Removal of London weighting will hit some institutions particularly hard, group argues
A group of London universities has called for the government to rethink its decision to scrap London weighting from the teaching grant, arguing that universities facing financial struggles will be hardest hit.
The London Higher group of universities warned on 15 April that the loss of London weighting would lead to a reduction of around £64 million per year for universities in the capital, representing a 13.7 per cent drop in funding, and that “given the significant variation in financial performance across institutions, it is likely that a number will be hit particularly hard”.
