University spending on outreach ‘could fall’ without Uni Connect

Charity calls for continued support for programme after analysis of institutions’ access and participation plans

The amount of money that universities invest in widening participation activities could fall unless the national Uni Connect outreach programme continues to receive funding, a charity has warned.

Research carried out by the National Education Opportunities Network (Neon) into 171 higher education institutions’ access and participation plans found that overall funding for outreach work with disadvantaged students could drop unless the Uni Connect programme is renewed from 2022-23.
