Online learning debate ‘must go beyond virtual lectures’

       

National Centre for Universities and Business says limiting conversation risks stifling innovation in teaching

Conversations around the future of online learning in the wake of Covid-19 are “oversimplified” and could limit innovation in teaching at universities, the National Centre for Universities and Business has warned.

The pandemic has seen a rush to move higher education teaching online, with many universities, lecturers and students keen to keep some elements of this after the virus is tamed. But in a 25 August article, Chris Russell, policy lead for skills and talent at the NCUB, argues that the debate around post-pandemic teaching “needs to go beyond discussion on whether lectures should be delivered online”.
