The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education is to move to a “membership model” this summer, meaning that universities will need to pay a subscription fee to access all of its services.
When the Office for Students regulatory framework is fully implemented on 1 August, the QAA—England’s designated higher education quality-assurance body—will no longer receive any public money for its work in England.
All providers registered with the OfS must pay an annual fee to cover the infrastructure costs of quality assurance activities, and there are additional charges for those who are subject to assessment. However, under the framework, the agency will be prohibited from using this income to provide any other services.
