‘Key worker’ courses have applicant shortfall

Admissions body reveals glut of unfilled places on nursing courses for the next academic year

Around 40 per cent of adult nursing and social work courses are still accepting applications for this autumn, with some universities looking to fill up to 50 places.

Data from the admissions body UCAS show that university courses in mental health, child nursing and learning disability nursing also have spaces left to fill for the next academic year. The government has promised up to 5,000 extra places on nursing, midwifery and allied health courses to help meet recruitment targets promised during the December 2019 election.
