Crashing out of the European Union without a deal would be “the most unhinged example of national self-sabotage in living memory”, the University of Glasgow’s vice-chancellor has said.
Speaking at a Brexit summit in Glasgow on 2 October, Anton Muscatelli—an economist and chairman of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities—forecasted “catastrophic” damage to the country in the event of a hard Brexit.
“In my view, a hard Brexit would represent the most unhinged example of national self-sabotage in living memory—and everyone in public life has a duty, a moral obligation, to do what we can to prevent it,” said Muscatelli, who stated that he was speaking in a personal capacity.
