Government defends its record despite DfE's low spending on Brexit preparations

The Department for Education has stressed that fit made “extensive preparations” for Brexit as a National Audit Office report revealed it spent the least of all government departments.

The NAO report, published on 6 March, revealed the DfE spent just £12 million on preparations for Brexit between June 2016 and 31 January 2020, the lowest level of spending across Whitehall. The Department for International Development had the second lowest spend at £19m, followed by the Competition and Markets Authority at £23m.
