Scholarship scheme could soften EU student numbers drop

UK universities could lose significant portion of EU students if international tuition fees are charged

The government should consider setting up a scholarship scheme to help students from other European Union countries to afford UK university fees, a higher education expert has suggested.

Simon Marginson, professor of higher education at the University of Oxford and director of the Centre for Global Higher Education, told Research Professional News that while there is “no doubt that EU student numbers will drop sharply when they have to pay full international student fees” from 2021, the fall in student numbers could be reduced with a more attractive financial offer.
