Increasing the number of degree apprenticeships must become a strategic priority for the UK government, to increase prestige for the vocational route, MPs have said.
In its report on apprenticeship provision in England, the Commons education committee said degree apprenticeships must be “flagships of the apprenticeship system” and the Institute for Apprenticeships, responsible for developing apprenticeships, cannot be “agnostic” in promoting them.
Several universities told the committee that the institute does not understand higher education and is therefore harming growth in degree-apprenticeship provision.
