White working class ‘let down’ by English education system

MPs say universities should be targeted on working-class student recruitment

The Office for Students should set admissions targets to help boost the proportion of white working-class students accessing higher education, a group of MPs has said.

In a report that claims England’s education system has “let down” white working-class students, the Commons education committee says England’s regulator should set a target for “inclusion of pupils from disadvantaged white backgrounds, to ensure that white working-class students’ participation in higher education is a key priority for all universities”.
