Students to fall under points-based immigration rules

EU students will join international students in proving offer, funds and English level

Students from the European Union will have to prove they have enough money and a place on a course before they can study at UK universities under the new points-based immigration system.

From January 2021, students will be covered under the government’s new immigration system, which will see would-be migrants accrue a certain number of points before they are allowed to work or study in the UK. Although the government already controls immigration from countries outside the EU, due to Brexit it will be able to restrict migration from EU countries.
