Bill defeated

The Australian Senate has rejected plans to introduce unrestricted tuition fees.

Christopher Pyne, the education secretary, said in a statement. "It is disappointing that Labor and the Greens voted to shut down Senate debate on the government’s higher education package before amendments could be considered.
