The government has delayed plans to charge international student medics £110,000 for their clinical placements until 2019.
The decision, announced by the Department of Health on 9 August, followed a consultation on the government’s plans to create an additional 1,5000 student medical places in UK universities.
The consultation outlined the government’s intention both to increase domestic supply and to charge international students the full costs of their course from 2018. The clinical training of each international medical student costs the UK government over £110,000.
