New government told to put free speech and academic freedom top of its priority list
The Policy Exchange think tank has urged the new Conservative government to act on its manifesto promise to protect free speech in universities.
In a briefing outlining what it wants the new government to prioritise in its first 100 days, Policy Exchange researchers including Iain Mansfield—who now heads the education arm of the think tank after briefly working as special adviser to former universities and science minister Jo Johnson—call for an Academic Freedom and Free Speech on Campus Bill to be introduced.
