Opposition party says skills legislation in the Queen’s speech is a “missed opportunity”

The government’s lifetime skills guarantee “fails to deliver” for young people hit hardest by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Labour Party has claimed.

 During a debate today on the legislation outlined in the Queen’s speech earlier this week, shadow education secretary Kate Green is expected to say that the government’s pledges on skills are “inconsistent and illogical, shutting out sectors where we already have a skills shortage”.
