Donald Trump has announced that the United States will no longer attempt to limit its greenhouse gas emissions to internationally agreed levels.

The US president has announced that he will withdraw the nation from the 2015 Paris accord. The BBC reports that only Syria and Nicaragua failed to sign up to the agreement and that there has been widespread international condemnation of Mr Trump’s decision. The announcement is almost certain to lead to further cuts to spending on green research, despite Mr Trump’s concession that the US would renegotiate an agreement.
