Tuition fee debate reignited

Damian Green, who acts as deputy prime minister, has criticised student debt.

Speaking at an event hosted by Bright Blue, a think tank on the liberal end of Conservatism with strong links to David Willetts, who oversaw the introduction of £9,000 tuition fees in England, Mr Green said the fees enabled universities to deliver high quality courses and teaching. However he acknowledged that student debt is “a huge issue” and urged the Tories to “change hard” to woo young people who voted Labour in the 2017 election.
