UK Research and Innovation chief to set out stall

Sir Mark Walport is to give his inaugural speech as chief executive of UK Research and Innovation today.

Exactly how the seven research councils, formed up to a century ago, will operate under an umbrella body led by Sir Mark, currently chief scientific adviser to the UK government, will be outlined in a speech delivered from 9am. Jo Johnson, the universities and science minister, has agreed to introduce the talk in Westminster.
