Facts and figures

Data from the Department for Education cast doubt on long-held beliefs in higher education.

Yesterday, the Department for Education released figures on the destinations of key stage 4 and key stage 5 students in England for 2016-17. For those of you working in old money or in another part of the UK, that means 16-year-olds finishing GCSEs (level 4) and 18-year-olds completing A-levels (level 5).

Chris Parr reports on the numbers for HE and tells us that the proportion of disadvantaged school and college leavers entering higher education fell to 46 per cent in 2016-17, a decrease of 1 percentage point on the year before.
