Universities may find a much-needed friend in the Commons education committee.
As promised before the world of higher education lost its collective marbles over a clickbait story in the i newspaper about bankrupt universities, it is time to take a closer look at the report of the Commons education committee on value for money. It was published on 5 November and was rather lost among the fireworks.
The first thing to say about the Commons education committee is that it is not the Commons higher education committee. Its interests tend to focus on schools, which, after all, concern the majority of the UK population and can be the focus of even more outré policymaking and politicking than higher education.
