The only possibility more dramatic than the government losing the meaningful vote on Brexit turned out to be the government pulling the vote. Prime minister Theresa May has decided to delay asking the Commons to approve her negotiated terms of departure from the European Union.
The volte-face came just hours after the European Court of Justice confirmed the recommendation of its advocate-general that the UK could unilaterally rescind the Article 50 process if it did so in good faith.
