The publication yesterday of one of the largest ever surveys of British attitudes towards immigration brought with it an array of national headlines.

Sky News opted for “Majority of Britons do not trust government on immigration”, citing the National Conversation on Immigration report’s finding that just 15 per cent of people surveyed said they felt the government had managed immigration competently. “Ministers not trusted to handle immigration,” said the Express, while The Scotsman led with “64 per cent of Scots want immigration powers devolved to Holyrood”.

Mail Online went for “Immigration has undermined UK culture and migrants have not integrated fully say four out of 10 Brits”, presumably not necessarily intending to draw attention to the fact that the majority, therefore, do not.
