While we were away, the Universities Superannuation Scheme launched another consultation.
The early months of any new year in higher education ought to be renamed consultation season. Like the monsoon season in the Indian subcontinent, it is both predictable and challenging. Equally, though, just as global warming is making extreme rainfall a more common occurrence in India, consultation season now seems to last all year round in UK universities.
The Universities Superannuation Scheme is running two consultations. One, an attempt to complete the outstanding valuation of the pension fund for 2017, is due to end on Friday. The other, launched on 2 January this year, is a consultation with employers on a valuation of the fund as of March 2018.
