Back with a bang

Happy New Year! Right, that’s the pleasantries out of the way. It has been a predictably lively start to 2019—a year that promises no let-up for universities.

In the first 10 days of 2018, there were political resignations, a cabinet reshuffle, and Toby Young’s appointment to, and resignation from, the board of the Office for Students, which you can read about in our 2018 review. The first week or so of January 2019 has not been quite as tumultuous, but there have already been notable developments.

A glance at the HE website brings news of the Universities Superannuation Scheme’s revised valuation, views on the OfS’s decision to ditch guidelines on universities’ minimum spend for access activities, and the Department for Education’s response to the Commons education committee’s report on value for money in higher education.
