Amidst the strikes and the general election, some important scholarly activity continues

Away from the hubbub of the general election and the University and College Union strikes, some normal academic life is continuing—specifically at those institutions not participating in the industrial action.

In the UCU ballot, King’s College London fell short of the 50 per cent turnout required to strike. Although more than 80 per cent of those voting backed strikes, turnout was 48 per cent—just 21 votes short of the number required to hit the threshold—meaning that yesterday’s King’s-hosted conference on higher education and refugees could go ahead as planned.
