Employers and USS members should take time to digest the recommendations of JEP 2

While most of us were picking through the results of the general election on Friday, the Joint Expert Panel on the Universities Superannuation Scheme published its second report. Chris Parr was first out of the blocks to provide a summary of its recommendations.

It was an odd time to publish the report, and not just because it was eclipsed by Boris Johnson’s election win. The previous week, members of the University and College Union had completed eight days of strike action over the pension scheme, while on 6 December the USS trustee warned that the deadline for the 2020 valuation could not be missed—the process begins in March and should be completed by June 2021.
