As the Conservatives win a landslide election victory, higher education holds its breath

So this is Brexmas, and what have you done? As John Lennon would surely have asked his fellow redwallers had he lived to be a curmudgeonly pensioner like some of the other Beatles.

In the end it was a resounding victory for the pollsters, with professor John Curtice’s exit count almost spot on. Ipsos Mori, which runs the National Student Survey, won the prize for most accurate prediction, putting the Conservatives on 44 per cent, Labour on 33, Lib Dems on 12, Greens on 3 and the Brexit Party on 2. The psephologists—unlike the Labour Party—seem to be able to learn the lessons of previous harsh defeats.
