Widening participation in universities was on the agenda in Westminster yesterday, along with the small issue of the UK’s participation in Europe.
Keen to enjoy some respite from the Brexit bedlam that had kept it awake until 3am on Monday night, Playbook spent the rest of the ante meridiem (after a brief snooze) at a Westminster Higher Education Forum event on the thorny issue of widening participation.
It seems we weren’t the only ones seeking refuge. The two chairs for the event’s debate were Labour MP David Lammy, relentless anti-Brexit campaigner and People’s Vote champion; and Susan Garden, Baroness Garden of Frognal, who is deputy speaker in the Lords for the Liberal Democrats (whose opposition to leaving the European Union has been well aired).
