The three candidates for general secretary of the University and College Union speak to Playbook.

Nominations to replace Sally Hunt as leader of the University and College Union closed on 8 April. There are three candidates running in the election, which opens on 29 April and closes on 23 May, with the results due to be announced two days later at the union’s annual congress in Harrogate.

The three are Matt Waddup, national head of policy and campaigns at the UCU; Jo Grady, UCU pension officer at the University of Sheffield, who was this year elected to the national dispute committee; and Jo McNeill, president of the University of Liverpool UCU branch and a member of the national executive committee. The contenders might be characterised as the insider, the newbie and the disruptor.
