Universities take very different approaches when it comes to training staff on the Prevent duty.

Playbook has followed the legal debate about the Prevent duty, and how it applies to UK universities, closely over the past couple of years.

You may recall that back in July 2018, we were among the first publications to cover a legal case brought by Salman Butt, who—among other things—challenged the lawfulness of Prevent guidance. He argued that it failed to comply with the duty outlined in the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 to have particular regard to ensuring free speech in higher education institutions.
