Students are supporting their lecturers as industrial action gets underway
Yesterday was the first of a planned 14 days of staff walkouts that will affect 74 universities over the next four weeks. Fiona McIntyre provided an early report from the picket lines.
What is noticeable about the strikes over pay and pensions so far is the support they are receiving from students. Notwithstanding claims in The Sunday Times of student anger (and their feeling that they need to pay private tutors to make up for lost teaching), students have generally been backing their lecturers.
