Hepi issues advice to government ahead of Wednesday’s budget, and the free speech row returns
The big talking point this week is likely to be Wednesday’s budget and thankfully not the issue of free speech on campus—which once again dominated the weekend’s higher education discussions following the “no-platforming” of Amber Rudd in Oxford and news that the government is looking to legislate on the matter (more on that later).
It is against a particularly turbulent backdrop that Rishi Sunak will deliver his first budget. Post-Brexit preparations and the news that coronavirus cases in the UK have passed the 270 mark will be the two most pressing issues on the rookie chancellor’s mind.
