Yesterday, prime minister Boris Johnson urged people to avoid gatherings and crowded places, work from home if possible and end unnecessary travel. By the weekend, people with serious underlying health conditions are, it seems, expected to shield themselves from contact with others.
These are difficult times. After the prime minister finished speaking, Playbook donned its coat and set off to drown its sorrows at the Barley Mow, before realising that pubs were now off the agenda for the foreseeable. It promptly placed its hat back on the hook and settled back down to work. Fortunately we have refreshments stockpiled at home.
