How should universities respond as a second wave of Covid-19 hits?
On 23 September, education secretary Gavin Williamson and health secretary Matt Hancock wrote to directors of public health in England. The letter concerned “developments and next steps” in the reopening of educational settings.
The first two and a half pages of the letter concern schools and colleges; the last page and a half cover universities. “The challenges for higher education will be different than for schools, and we would ask you to engage in depth with universities in your area to help them to establish the protocols that will be necessary in a range of scenarios,” say Williamson and Hancock.
