Cost of being Covid-secure

Covid-19 has hit finances hard at universities serving large numbers of students from disadvantaged backgrounds

The failure of the government to mention universities in last week’s lockdown announcement was a particular snub considering the amount they have all spent on keeping their campuses as Covid-safe as possible.

Buildings have been reconfigured, hand sanitiser and personal protective equipment have been sourced and extra staff have been trained and employed as social distancing guides at a cost of hundreds of thousands—sometimes millions—of pounds.
