There’s still no white paper but there’s no shortage of news about universities and research

Three days of strike action are due to start at universities tomorrow, so let’s begin with the news that Alistair Jarvis, chief executive of the vice-chancellors’ group Universities UK, has chosen this moment to announce that he will be leaving UUK in the summer. Jarvis is set to take up the post of pro vice-chancellor for partnerships and governance at the University of London in June.

He is not the only one on the move. Kate Green was removed as shadow education secretary in a reshuffle initiated by Labour leader Keir Starmer yesterday. It was confirmed yesterday evening that the official opposition’s frontbench spokesperson on education would be Bridget Phillipson, MP for Houghton and Sunderland South. More details on our site later.
