The research investment debate continues and the OfS warns universities against student over-recruitment
We begin today’s Playbook with news of a national popcorn shortage as erstwhile prime ministerial adviser Dominic Cummings prepares to face the science and technology committee.
The session begins at 9.30am and will explore government plans to establish the “high-risk, high reward” research funding agency now known as the Advanced Research and Invention Agency, or Aria. Legislation to establish the agency formerly known as Arpa is before parliament, and the agency was awarded £50 million of its five-year £800m budget in the November spending review. Sightseeing (or lack of it) at Barnard Castle is not within the committee’s remit.
