UKRI confirms cuts as doubts are raised over the road to 2.4 per cent

Last week, Rishi Sunak stood up in parliament and repeated some buzzwords that will be all too familiar to Playbook readers as he spoke about the UK “becoming a scientific superpower” and attracting “the best and most promising international talent in science, research and tech”.

But—as you’d expect from a fiscally as well as politically Conservative chancellor—he also spoke about having to make choices that might not be popular. That is to say: get ready for bad news.
