The education secretary comes out batting for free speech and against ‘low-value courses’

It has been a busy couple of days since Playbook last dropped into your inbox, with the issue of free speech on campus continuing to dominate national news headlines and the government once again hinting that tuition fee cuts could be on the agenda.

It all started on Friday, when the Conservative Home website published a lengthy blogpost by education secretary Gavin Williamson in which he sought—in one fell swoop—to defend his free speech bill and completely dismiss the importance of the arts and humanities.
