Where does higher education sit in government priorities for the new parliamentary year?

It is a sign of the times we are living through that Gavin Williamson’s summer reprise of the A-level fiasco did not linger too long in the national consciousness. The rest of us were too busy worrying about the fall of Kabul to the Taliban and wildfires across the globe.

Ironically, the word ‘Taliban’ in Pashto means ‘students’. Despite the imminent return of UK schools and universities during an ongoing pandemic, the Afghan group were the only students on the minds of the Westminster government this summer.
