This was supposed to be prime minister Liz Truss’s honeymoon. It is more like sobering up in Vegas with a wedding ring and a tattoo of the stranger you met at the roulette wheel the night before.
The Tory conference opens amid open rebellion within the party and with a YouGov poll showing a 33-point lead for Labour. Under such circumstances, universities and research are probably not high on the prime minister’s list of priorities—indeed, dear reader, we still do not have a science minister.
