A Heif uplift for commercialisation and a Hepi report on research leadership land this morning

We might be heading towards possible cuts in the science budget come 17 November, but today starts with good news in the shape of a £20 million increase in the Higher Education Innovation Fund (Heif) to support the commercialisation of research. It comes on top of a £30m increase last year as part of a £260m total pot for knowledge exchange.

Today’s £20m add-on is not extra money found down the back of a sofa at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, but part of the allocation to UK Research and Innovation agreed during the comprehensive spending review. Today’s announcement was scheduled to support the government’s growth agenda.
