This week has seen news about funding for specialist providers, universities’ role in helping students get jobs and continuing falls in the number of students from the EU.

None of this is likely to form part of any imminent future inquiry by the Education Select Committee, its new chair, Robin Walker, told Playbook this week, in one of the first interviews since his appointment.
