Labour sets extra maths, and a policy note assesses the Robbins Report’s legacy

It is a sign of the “hard road” ahead that the last day of the Labour Party conference saw delegates sent on their way with the rousing promise of extra maths.

Announcing plans to “bring maths to life for the next generation”, the shadow education secretary, Bridget Phillipson, promised to boost maths teaching for primary school pupils and provide better training for teachers in order to achieve it.
