Reports from the OfS, the IFS and PA Consulting make for a lively news agenda

It has been a busy 24 hours for universities, with the Office for Students publishing the outcome of its latest quality review, PA Consulting releasing the latest edition of its annual survey of vice-chancellors, and an Institute for Fiscal Studies paper on adult learning.

If the OfS was hoping that its quality-assessment “boots on the ground” inspections would help improve what has been a fairly fractious relationship with the higher education sector, then things haven’t exactly gone as planned. Even those providers found to have been delivering courses which England’s regulator found no fault with have been left frustrated by the process.
