The recruitment of foreign students is making headlines once again

This year is already shaping up to be something of an annus horribilis for those of us with a passion for international higher education.

As we reported last week, prime minister Rishi Sunak kicked his social media year off with a post seemingly boasting about how most overseas students can no longer bring their spouses and children with them if they want to study in the UK. Ucas figures suggest a downturn in international student acceptances, with the US and Australia now much more ‘open for business’ after the pandemic. And a story about international students popped up on BBC Radio 4’s flagship Today programme yesterday.
