Universities Scotland has a new head at a difficult time for higher education

We begin today with the news—announced this morning—that Universities Scotland has appointed Claire McPherson as its next director.

McPherson will bring plenty of political experience to the role since she joins from the Scottish government, where she has held an array of roles—including in the first minister’s policy unit. She has also been deputy director of population and migration and deputy director for public service reform, public bodies and the third sector.
