A ruling against the University of Bristol has wider implications for higher education institutions

Yesterday, the High Court rejected the University of Bristol’s appeal against a 2022 judgment that it contributed to the death of a student with chronic social anxiety by discriminating against her. It is a case that has far-reaching ramifications for universities in the UK.

The court ruled that Bristol had contributed to the death of Natasha Abrahart, a physics student who took her own life on 30 April 2018, by failing to make sufficient adjustments to its assessment processes to account for her anxiety.
