Constance replaces Russell

Angela Constance has been appointed education secretary in the Scottish Parliament.

First minister Nicola Sturgeon today appointed Angela Constance (pictured), as part of a reshuffle that has introduced a 50-50 gender split in the cabinet. Michael Russell had held the post for nearly five years.

Constance will handle science and universities, as well as holding responsibilities for further education and colleges, school standards and infrastructure, and children’s and young people’s rights. Her portfolio will also include a separate minister for children and young people and a minister for learning, science and Scotland’s islands and languages.
