Rise in number of poor Scots who gain university places

Acceptances are up by 13 per cent among those from the poorest neighbourhoods.

University applicants from the most deprived areas of Scotland are winning more university places, according to figures published by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service on 8 August.

Some 4,150 applicants from the country’s most deprived postcodes have been placed at university. The previous year, just 3,680 gained a place.
